Despite declining the Doctor's offer to travel with him, she finds herself
unable to settle down in the world. With no job and a mother constantly moaning at her, Donna looks for a
chance to meet the Doctor again. She suspects that Adipose Industries might be the best place to
start looking.
Adipose Industries, run by a Miss Foster, is a recently founded company producing a miracle
diet pill. As the Doctor disovers, the pills allow people to lose weight on a precise nightly schedule.
Something is not quite right. After visiting one of the clients, Donna discovers that the pills can be
deadly. "The fat just walks away"!
The Doctor and Donna return to the Adipose building still yet having encountered each other.
After conceiling themselves for an entire day in the building, they take another look around. Also in
the building is a journalist named Penny Carter. They spot each other whilst Miss Foster interrogates
the journalist and hold a silent conversation. This doesn't go unnoticed and they soon find themselves
in trouble. But what is Miss Foster really up to?...

Miss Foster: Oh Penny, if cynicism burnt off calories, we would all be thin as rakes.
Sylvia: It's my turn for the Car. What d'you need it for?!
Donna: A quick getaway!
Penny: What sort of country do you think this is?
Miss Foster: Oh it's a beautifully fat country. Now believe me, I've travelled a long way
to find obesity on this scale.
Doctor: I just wanna mate.
Donna: You just want to mate?!
Doctor: I just want a mate!
Donna: You're not mating with me sunshine!

After a second viewing I found this episode rather good. I had a few reservations about it at first, which,
once put into context, did start to disappear. Those reservations were the Adipose. Having seen the recent
preview clip, I sat down to watch the episode worried about the quality of the special effects job.
They appeared cartoonish and rather cheap. However, after watching the episode, I realised that they worked
perfectly. After all, they were made from bits of excess body fat!
Donna's transformation from loud-mouthed angry bride to future travelling companion was well realised. Although
her argumentative side has not totally disappeared, the transformed Donna is wiser and more relaxed.
Her grandfather, last seen as a newspaper vendor at Christmas, is also well realised. Bernard Cribbins was one of the joys of
the episode.
There are two things that I am still yet to get over, though. The first is the removal of the Peugeot badges from
Donna's car. Was this entirely necessary? After all, everyone knows the Car is a Peugeot simply by its design. It
feels quite pedantic to remove the badges. The second was Ms Tyler's brief re-appearance at the end. Although a
good companion, Rose's drawn out departure still makes me agitated about her return. I hope she doesn't re-appear
in every episode.
Despite that, it was a great start to a new series. (Dan Ludlow)
