The Story
The Doctor takes Martha back home. But, after seeing a news report about a demonstration by Professor Richard Lazarus at her home, he decides to stay and investigate.

Professor Lazarus promises a great step forward for mankind before he enters his machine. When he leaves it (after the Doctor prevents it exploding), he appears to have been transformed into a younger man. However, the experiment soon goes wrong. Professor Lazarus turns into a hideous monster who feeds of the life force of others.

The Doctor and Martha find Lady Thaw dead in the Professor's office just as the Professor takes Martha's sister Tish to the roof. It's up to the Doctor and Martha to save Tish and the world from the monster Lazarus has become...

Memorable Quotes
Lazarus: That's an interesting perfume, what's it called?
Tish: Soap.

Lady Thaw: Did that process make you even more cruel?
Lazarus: No my love, that I learnt from you. You have a gift for it.

Lazarus: Between the idea and the reality. Between the motion and the act...
Doctor: Falls the shadow.

Editor's Review
This was a very good episode. Everything was there and everything fell into place. However, there was something that made me just a little unimpressed by it somehow, but I can't think why.

Mark Gatiss was on top form as the Professor, there was a cheeky "reverse the polarity" reference (if only the other three words would have been included), and there was a rather spooky character that seemed to know a lot about the Doctor.

The monster is quite horrific but well realised. It just goes to show that one menacing monster can be just as effective as an army of them. Sadly 42 has been delayed by no less than two song contests next Saturday. It will be shown sometime on the 19th of May. (Dan Ludlow)
