The Doctor takes Martha to the city of New New York on New Earth. Soon after they arrive however, Martha is kidnapped by a couple hoping to seek access to the Motorway's fast lane.
The Doctor starts his frantic search for her just as the Face of Bo asks his carer to find the Doctor.
When he reaches a Motorway service hatch, the Doctor meets Brannigan, a Cat who has been on the motorway for ten years. Eventually the Doctor gets restless and makes his way down
the various levels of the Motorway to reach Martha. However, he discovers that there are Macra living down in the fast lane...

Whitey: Rumour has it that you can reach up to thirty miles per hour!
Martha: Wow. That's like, crazy...
Novice Hame: Those people on the Motorway, Doctor, aren't lost, they were saved.
The Face of Bo: I must, but know this Timelord. You are not alone.

Gridlock is a slightly dull sequel to 'New Earth'. It's main purpose, I felt, was to create the Doctor's last meeting with the Face of Bo. The Macra, the alien baddies, were only
featured briefly and weren't that well explained. If you want to know more about the Macra, I recommend that you purchase the Audio CD of The Macra Terror.
However, I was glad that Novice Hame was turned into a good guy rather than an evil killer. Brannigan was well played by Ardal O'Hanlon and the last words of the face of Bo were quite
well delivered. Next week, at an earlier time, sees the return of the Daleks!
