The Story
After unexpectedly appearing inside the TARDIS, Donna Noble returns to Earth alongside the Doctor, who is determined to return her to her marriage ceremony. However, on arriving on the Earth, Donna is abducted by a Robot Santa and the Doctor is forced to rescue her. Sadly, by that time it’s too late for Donna’s wedding ceremony and they return to her Wedding party to offer their apologies.

They are not alone, however: the Robot Santas follow them to the party and, using a Christmas tree, attack the attendees. Luckily, the Doctor knows how to destroy them and, along with Donna’s fiancé Lance, they go to Donna’s workplace to uncover the truth behind Donna’s transportation and the Robot Santas’ return.

Once there, they discover that the empress of a long since presumed dead race named the Racnoss plans to resurrect her race and consume every Human being on Earth. It's up to the Doctor to finish the work his former Timelords started and save Christmas on Earth…

Memorable Quotes
Doctor: Oi Santa! Word of advice, if you're attacking a man with a Sonic Screwdriver, don't let him near the sound system.

Lance: Then I was stuck with a woman for who the height of excitement is a new flavour Pringle.

Empress: Tell me, do you want to be released?
Donna & Lance: Yes!
Empress: You're supposed to say "I do"

Doctor: I don't need anyone.
Donna: Yes you do, 'cause sometimes I think you need someone to stop you.

Editor's Review
The Runaway Bride was a brilliant episode that, I must confess, I expected to be rubbish. Despite my reservations, Catherine Tate put in a very good performance as Donna and, along with David Tennant, created some very funny exchanges. Sarah Parish looked unrecognisable in costume as the Empress of the Racnoss and, apart from her introductory line, put in a very good performance.

The only part that I found slightly irritating was the ending when the Doctor makes it snow. Yes, I know we all hope for a white Christmas, but it was a tad excessive, although it did fit Donna’s closing line well. The motorway rescue scene was great – the inclusion of the kids in the back of the Range Rover made for a funny scene when they mouthed a “jump” to Donna.

Tagged onto the credits was a montage of clips from the upcoming third series in which the Doctor’s next companion Martha was featured. That’s another great Christmas special over with. I’m really looking forward to series three now. (Dan Ludlow)
