The Story
The TARDIS takes the Doctor and Rose to Scotland in the year 1879. When they step outside they are met by a hostile party escorting Queen Victoria to Balmoral Castle. Due to the long journey, the party decides to rest at Torchwood House. However, all is not as it seems at the house.

Prior to the Queen’s arrival a group of Werewolf worshipping monks take control of the house and place a cage containing the sinister beast in the cellar alongside the servants and the lady of the house. As the Queen’s party arrive the sky darkens to reveal a full moon at which the caged man becomes Werewolf and reeks terror in the household as it searches for the Queen to take control of the empire…

Memorable Quotes
Doctor: I'm Doctor James McCrimmon from the township of Balamory.

Queen Victoria: It is said whoever owns it [the crystal] must surely die.

Queen Victoria: I propose an Institute to investigate these strange happenings and to fight them. I will call it 'Torchwood' - The Torchwood Institute. And if this Doctor should return, then he should beware because Torchwood will be waiting.

Editor's Review
Tooth and Claw was a mildly chilling episode and deserved its fear factor of 5. The setting was quite grand and the characters were well scripted. The Werewolf was a great piece of CGI characterisation and I read that it was a vast improvement on the one The Mill constructed for Harry Potter. The one cringe-worthy part of the episode was Rose’s bet with the Doctor over whether she could get Queen Victoria to say “I am not amused!” It was fine to reference it maybe once or twice but got a bit annoying and slightly spoilt what was a great episode overall.

I was impressed by the application of simple Science in order to kill the Werewolf and liked the depth of Queen Victoria’s characterisation. Pauline Collins (who has starred in Doctor Who before) was brilliant in the role. Despite one minor irritation Tooth and Claw was a great episode. (Dan Ludlow)
