The Story
After a dangerous encounter in the space/time vortex, the Doctor finds himself on Earth, October 1930. Or rather above it, aboard the British airship R101 on it's maiden voyage over France. Also on board is a young stowaway, Charlotte 'Charley' Pollard, seeking adventure and excitement away from her stifling family atmosphere. What Charley doesn't know but the Doctor does is that the flight is destined to end in tragedy, although no-one really knows why. Not even the Doctor, although maybe the passenger in Cabin 43 can help...

Editor's Review
Being the first Big Finish story that I’ve listened to, I didn’t really know what to expect from Storm Warning. I’ve listened to a few fan audio stories and; from them I’ve learnt the qualities of a good audio adventure and what the pitfalls are. Storm Warning was a really nice story to begin BBC7’s Big Finish series: it was a compact story set mostly within the confines of an Airship (the R101) and stayed away from attempting big budget audio effects that would have confused the listener. The plot was an OK one for me. The Triskeli were not bad as far as Audio villains are concerned and the range of voices in the cast was great as it allowed me to distinguish all of the characters properly – no bewilderment over who’s saying what!

There were some pitfalls in the story though: the first scene with the Doctor didn’t quite work and meant that the Doctor had to talk to himself in order to explain what was going on. There were also one or two “I have a loaded gun in my hand” lines spread around. Overall it was a nice story to begin the series and I enjoyed listening to it. Well done to Alan Barnes for a very good effort. Things are looking up! (Dan Ludlow)
